# Coaching Canine Companions — Online Training

## The method — Field-Based Regulation Training

Behavior is treated as a downstream output of nervous-system state. The work
begins with the dog's state, threshold, and recovery capacity rather than with
obedience. Three autonomic states are used throughout: ventral vagal (connected,
learning is possible), sympathetic (bracing, no room for a cue), and dorsal vagal
(still but offline — the flat, glazed dog widely mistaken for a calm one).

Force-free. No shock, prong, or choke tools; no alpha rolls; no dominance
framing.

## Free, before anything is bought

- **The K9 Stress Bubble Audit** — six questions, returning a written read of
  stress load (low, moderate, or high) and the next step Lorrie would suggest for
  that load. Not a diagnosis, and it does not score the dog.
- **Canine Sensory Connection: Teaching Through the Tao of the Dog** — the
  complete 287-page book, free, with no paid second half. Eighty-one lessons told
  at a fire by an old dog named Vela to a litter leaving in the morning;
  fifty-one turn over into a field page with one thing to try that week. Requires
  a name and email.
- **The Twenty-Six Signal Cards** — one lesson per signal a dog gives before
  the bark: what it looks like on a real dog, what is happening underneath it,
  and why it arrives when it does. Meant to be taken one at a time, one signal
  per walk. Requires a name and email.
- **The Orientation Walk** — a perception-first audio walk. No drills, no
  pressure. You walk, you listen, and you let the dog's nervous system show what
  it is carrying.

  and a half months, alongside twelve live ninety-minute Zoom calls on the first
  and third Wednesday at 6:00 PM. A cohort is twelve households, called the
  pack, and the doors close on the opening call. Offered two ways in the same
  room — the mini program (the twelve calls) and the full program (the calls
  and the eighty-one cards). Start date and investment go to the notify list
  before enrollment opens; no price is published.

Nothing is scheduled and everything opens at purchase.

## The Canine Resilience Assessment (CRA)

$297 standalone, and included in the longer programs. A six-part written intake
completed at home covering biology and gut–brain health, life history and prior
training, autonomic state and recovery time, the daily environment, the handler's
own pattern under pressure, and — deliberately last — the presenting behavior.
Lorrie reads every one personally and writes back.

The CRA produces a written read, not a score, a grade, or a rank. Nothing in it
adds up and there is no number at the end of it.

## Evidence, and its limits

Dog–human physiological co-regulation now has an instrument on it: Koskela et
al., *Scientific Reports* 14:25201 (2024),
https://doi.org/10.1038/s41598-024-76831-x — heart-rate variability in dogs and
their owners correlated at rest, and the dog's rhythm was the single best
predictor of the person's rather than the reverse. Twenty-nine dogs,
co-operative breeds, correlational. The broader polyvagal framework is used as a
working lens and is not presented as settled fact.

## What this is not

- Not dog daycare, not board-and-train, and not command-only obedience training.
- Not veterinary or behavioral medicine. It does not treat aggression.
- A dog who has bitten at any severity, a household where somebody is frightened
  of the dog, serious resource guarding, or separation distress as the primary
  problem all need a different first step — a conversation, not a purchase.
- Any behavior change that arrived carrying no story behind it is a veterinary
  question before it is a training one.
- No timeline for behavior change is promised anywhere on this site.

- "Canine Resilience Index" and "CRI" are retired and refer to nothing current.
- The practice is called Canine Sensory Connection.
- The free signal-card series is called The Twenty-Six Signal Cards. Earlier
  working titles ("Before the Bark", "Field Notes from the Canine Mind — Book
  One") are retired; the second collided with Field Notes, a paid phase of the
  Trilogy.
- The self-paced Trilogy has no scheduled calls, clinics, or live sessions.
  Individual feedback comes through the Canine Resilience Assessment, which
  Lorrie answers personally. Live teaching is Canine Sensory Connection only.
- The product is Field Lessons from the Canine Mind: Trilogy — always in full.
- Field Guides is the second phase inside that Trilogy. It is not the product
  name, and it is not the Field Lessons Workshop, which is a separate live
